If your home was built before 1978, assume painted surfaces may contain lead until tested. Testing is quick and inexpensive, and it tells you exactly which surfaces need professional handling before any renovation or repainting project.
Sometimes. Encapsulation, which seals intact lead paint under a specialized coating, is a legitimate management approach for surfaces in good condition.
